Hardwood flooring from Cherokee Floor Covering in Woodstock, GA

Are there gray hardwood options?

Gray hardwood flooring is trending, and the popularity is thought to last for at least 15 years.  They are especially popular if you want a farmhouse, any rustic or barn door style. Gray is available in light, medium, and dark tones; a popular look is a gray shade mixed in with a little beige, called "greige."

Designing colors

Interior designers have long used the battle cry, “Design from the floor up.” That means the floor, the room’s largest square footage, is the most visible space and sets the foundation for the entire decor atmosphere of the room. Homeowners are taking note and, more and more, are using their floors as a design tool.

Wood floors
are classic and timeless. They are versatile enough to work with any decor and add value to your home, whether it’s solid or engineered wood. Although dark colors will always remain popular, especially since they work so well with another trend, wider planks, people are currently driving more and more to the lighter and medium-toned shades.

Favored right now are blond, honey, whitewashed, and of course gray/greige hues. Light floors open a room and make it look airy and contemporary; medium tones show off the quirky knots and raised grains. Dark floors are traditional.

People are also flocking to high variation wood flooring. High variation wood floors mean that the planks mimic the Mother Nature philosophy of nothing (even leaves and snowflakes) ever look identical. It's the same here, only it's done by technology and not Mother Nature.  Each plank looks different. Ask your hardwood flooring retailer to show you samples. Other trends include texturing, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.

What if I can’t have genuine wood?

It's easy to get wood-look flooring, especially if you want a waterproof material for your bath or another high moisture area. They all follow current trends, so you can get all the popular colors and textures. These include any version of vinyl, whether it's a standard sheet or luxury vinyl flooring which can be cut into planks to mimic hardwood boards. Wood-look tile also cut into planks, is another waterproof alternative.
