How to keep your hardwood flooring looking great!

At Cherokee Floor Covering, we’ve heard it all, and despite tons of information, some of the same questions come up over and over again. One that we hear a lot is “But isn’t wood flooring hard to take care of?”
No, they are beyond easy to care for and, in fact, hardwood often looks better with age, and that flooring will be the crown in your Georgia home for years.
Care and maintenance
●The most important thing for you to keep in mind is that water is THE #1 enemy of hardwood flooring. While these floors usually don’t need replacing, a refinishing will often do the trick. Excess water will create structural damage where the only answer will be replacement.
That means to wipe spills immediately. If you are mopping with a cleaner (damp mop only and manufacturer-approved soap, please) be sure to wipe the floor very well; if you leave any liquid, it could go between the joints.
If you do get a flood from rain, leaky pipes or some appliance like the dishwasher, don’t panic, but do act immediately. Remove all wet items (like rugs or furniture) right away. Use a wet vacuum to absorb standing water, clean the surface with a disinfectant, and then use the wet vacuum again, and then use fans or dehumidifiers.
It’s also a good idea to call your flooring retailer since there can be water underneath the planks that you may not be able to see.
●Sweep, preferably, every day with a soft broom. When you vacuum, remove the beater bars if you have them, because they’ll scratch the floor.
Every day care
Take care of your hardwood flooring just as you would any precious item. Try not to walk on them wearing high heels, which can dent. Strategically place some mats or area rugs by entrances, with maybe one in front of the sink or dishwasher, just in case. Don’t move furniture without those little protective pads. Keep pet nails trimmed.
That’s it!
