When most people think of red hardwood flooring, minds seem to turn towards the dramatic wood like the blazing Brazilian cherry, Bloodwood, or Chakte Kok. However, a red floor can also be subtle, as in some of our domestic species found right here in the Cherokee Floor Covering inventory.
When considering naturally red floors, consider that colors can range from a pinkish hue to golden-toned, cinnamon, strawberry red, deep orange, or even a combination of brown and red. Mahogany, for example, is a deep, rich, red-brown shade.
Why choose red hardwood floors?
These floors are warm, cozy, and inviting, with a unique beauty and timeless appeal. But, for example, they're also hard; red oak has a Janka rating of 1290, which is considered the benchmark for hardness in the hardwood flooring industry.
Like all interior design, the priority should be balanced. For example, a red floor can become dominant, so balance it with pale paints and furnishings such as cool-tone blue or green upholstery or area rugs.
Red Oak: pink hue, distinctive grain
Red oak is one of the most popular hardwood floors; the color ranges from reddish-pink to light cream and brown tones. It's also stain-friendly, with large, open, porous grains, so you can easily customize it to make it darker or lighter.
Maple has reddish-brown streaks that darken over time. Hickory, known as the hardest domestic, has a color range from red to light or medium brown. Walnut can have reddish tones (or even gray). Crowfield by Palmetto Road includes both oak and maple in its composition. Also, check out the reds in our engineered wood flooring collection, such as Dennison by Mohawk or Classic Cherry Oak by Somerset.
