Brazilian Cherry: maybe the most well-known of the exotic species
From the early to mid-2000s, it wasn't unusual to see Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) wood floors in almost any home. Like all exotic species (harvested outside North America,) it is rugged and durable, with a Janka rating of 2350 and a blazing red color. In addition, it works well with stains and finishes, which is one reason it’s so popular.

- Bloodwood is a hard, heavy wood,also referred to as cardinal wood and Satine. It is strawberry red,with streaks of gold, that eventually turn to a red-brown shade.This is harvested both in Central and South America.
- Padauk comes from Central and WestAfrica. It has an orange-deep crimson color orange to deep crimsonthat can deepen to almost purple and a spicy smell when left in itsnatural state (unfinished).
- Sapele. Harvested from Africa,this has a golden-to-reddish brown color.
