Three Important Things to Consider When Choosing a New Floor Covering

Now that we are heading into the Summer remodeling season, many people have their hearts set on a new floor covering for their homes. Purchasing new flooring for your house is a huge investment, and it is important to examine your needs, decorative goals, and budget, before pulling the trigger on your new floors to be sure that you get the floor covering that meets all of your requirements.

Flooring isn't something we tend to think about on a day to day basis, unless we work in the industry. So, many people go into their floor buying experience blind. At Cherokee Floor Covering, we want our customers to make their decisions with eyes wide open, fully possessed of the knowledge they need, to make this important decision correctly.
With that in mind, we put together this quick guide to the 3 most important things to consider when choosing your new flooring.

1. Lifestyle Considerations

One of the most important things to take into account when choosing your floors, is the practical demands your lifestyle will make on them. If you have rambunctious kids or pets, you might want to shy away from that lovely, plush white carpet, and opt for something more resistant to the rigors of children and pets, such as engineered hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl tile, or traditional hardwood flooring.

If you really can't live without that lovely white carpeting, ask your carpet store's sales staff about some of the extremely stain-resistant carpets on the market. You might be surprised at just how resistant they can be!

2. Budget

As good as that Brazilian cherry wood flooring might look, if it is outside of your price range, it is highly unlikely you will be able to get your hands on it. However, the modern floor covering companies have all sorts of alternatives, such as wood look laminate flooring, or engineered hardwood flooring with a Brazilian cherry veneer.

If you are honest with yourself and your flooring sales staff about your budget, they will be able to find suitable alternatives to achieve just about any decorating goal you may have, without breaking the bank.

3. Your Decor

Make sure you take home samples of any floor you are considering, to see how it fits with the overall decor of your home. This is the only way you can really see how your new floors will jive up with the rest of your home's aesthetic. Ignore this step at your own peril!
